| Weapons of Moral Destruction |
|

In today’s troubled world, we hear a lot about weapons
of mass destruction—who has them, the threat
they pose, and what it is costing to deal with them. But what
about the weapons of moral destruction that our so-called
enlightened world has developed and is distributing?
Although the seeds of moral erosion are as old as Adam, let’s
go back to only 1773. In that year, when those endeavoring
to take control of the banking systems of a number of European
countries drew up the plan for achieving their goal, one of
their declared strategies was to use liquor, drugs, moral
corruption, and all manner of vice to distract and anesthetize
the youth of the targeted nations.
During recent decades, the popular press would have us focus
on the Middle East as the major source of terrorism. However,
when one looks at the front cover of magazines available in
the Cairo Airport, and compares them with those on display
in, for example, the Amsterdam or Minneapolis airports, one
senses that while the goal in Middle Eastern countries is
to cover as much of the female body as possible,
the goal in some parts of the Western world is to have women
uncover as much as possible. Furthermore, my colleagues
in the Middle East and Southeast Asia grieve over the destructive
influence some Hollywood productions are having on the moral
values of young people in their corners of the world. One
might say we are exporters of “moral terrorism.”
In 1983, when I began working in Asia, the Christian church
was growing rapidly in several countries there. In some of
those same countries, the church is now in a state of decline—for
the younger generations have access to the Internet, videos
and DVDs, huge shopping malls, and cell phones, which encourage
them to possess and enjoy things that gratify their desires
rather than glorify and serve the One who made and owns all
things—including “their” very body and the
ground they walk on. Although computers and the Internet are
indeed helpful inventions, there are now 260 million pornographic
Web sites available on the Internet (Time, Jan. 19,
2004).
The only solution to combat these weapons of moral destruction?
To empower people to know and rejoice in the forgiving grace
of Jesus the Messiah, and to follow Him in dedicated, servant
discipleship. Ponder what changes might take place on Planet
Earth if all people of all nations based life on the question,
“How can I use life to glorify my gracious, forgiving
Lord by devoting myself to serving everybody else full-time,
in all I do?”
The goal of Jesus’ ministry was not to save God’s
people from those “so-and-so Romans,”
but to save them from their own sins. Our Lord taught
clearly and powerfully that the real enemy is that deadly
trio of the demonic, the world order, and the sinful
human heart—whose message is, “Serve self!”
Jesus conquered that deadly trio by walking the way of a servant
without limit—even to the point of giving up His life
on a cross. He conquered those enemies called Sin and Death
by enduring crucifixion and the tomb, and rising from the
dead. Profound truths—eternal implications!
Crossways International provides a wide variety of spiritual
teaching tools to help people discern and deal with the world’s
weapons of moral destruction–and to share the message
of Jesus the Messiah with associates, friends, family, and
so forth. Among other things, we make available Road to
Coronation—a Lenten study course that helps people
understand that Jesus’ crucifixion was in fact His coronation,
and that Jesus’ resurrection was His vindication. If
Jesus’ Father gave a “Yes!” vote to Jesus’
servant-without-limit ministry by raising Him from the dead,
we, God’s people, need to examine the nature and depth
of our vote in relation to Jesus. We’d love to help
you increase the number of “Yes!” votes in your
church and community. Call us toll-free. You will always get
a person—not a machine—during office hours.
